Glagah beach which positioned in the west side of Jogjakarta, precisely at Kulon Progo Regency, is becoming the area for eco tourism as it is a place to grow dragon fruits. The fruits which is from China has becoming more popular in Indonesia for the last 10 years.

Glagah Beach is about 25 kilometers from Jogjakarta. It is easy to get there by bus or rent motorcycle. There, we may enjoy dragon fruits juice or eaten as it is. Fishing would also be a great activity to be done, if you like. There is a river that will be a great location for fishing.

Batam is the Indonesia closest island to Singapore. The distance between those two cities is only 20 miles which is only 40 minutes trip by ferry. The city is becoming tourism destination since it has many interesting objects from just shopping to enjoy the beaches.

Kampung Nongsa Beach Batam

The attractions in the Kampung Nongsa Beach except the beach itself is the traditional village of the Malay people. Here, we may observe the life of the villagers to know further the way they interact, working, and see the culture.

The beach is located between Nongsa Marina and Batam View, about 60 minutes travel from Nagoya. From the Hang Nadim airport, it is about 20 minutes by taxi or minibus to Nongsa.

Marina beach is located at Tanjung Riau – Sekupang. The area is built in beach town design which is called water front city. The attraction in the beach are Banana boat, Boat, Para-sailing, Jet sky, etc. there is an international port, so that visiting this place directly from Singapore is possible.

Melur Beach

This beach is belong to Galang island Batam Indonesia. Many people have visited this beach not only to enjoy the beatiful view but also to see the Vietnamese camp and the panorama at the Tuanku Tambusai bridge. The white sand in the beaches is the perfect place for sun-bathing while the water for swimming and sailing. To reach it, we may drive via trans Berelang for about 75 minutes from Nagoya.

Panau Beach

This tourism object has a beautiful sea panorama and traditional village of the Malay (kampung melayu). At the the season of the southern ocean wind, the waves are large categorized. The tourist may do maritim activities such as swimming, sailboat races, jet sky and parasailing.

The potential tourism object located between the Telaga Pungkur port and Kabil Industrial Estate (Asia Port) that can be reached from Nagoya for 60 minutes, Nongsa Pura Port for 30 minutes, and Hang Nadim Airport for 10-20 minutes.

Mentawai island is popular with the high tube rolling waves, that is the favorite of surfers. By various surfing organizations, waves in Mentawai rated as the third best in the world after Hawaii and Tahiti.

The waves in Mentawai are big. In the video, you can see that its waves are huge that is very ideal for surfing. We advice, surfers should be skillful to ride the waves otherwise they may choose the smaller waves near the beach.

Mentawai Islands consist about seventy islands. The biggest island is Siberut which is known as Siberut National Park. The other islands like Kandui, Siloinak and Makaroni have very beautiful view where resorts are built.

To go to Mentawai, travelers can go by boat from Muara Padang. The trip will last about ten hours.

For many surfers, G-Land at Plengkung, East Java is the best place for surfing. If you skilled on the surf board, the G-Land’s waves will give you a challenge. The tubing waves for 3 to 5 meters high, 2 kilometers long surely the best to ride. The following videos shows how the waves in action.

Observing people’s activities is interesting especially the activity that we don’t know before like the local people’s activity of Drini beach. Drini beach is about 10 kilometers to the east of Baron beach, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. Mostly, the occupation of them is fisherman. Of course they catch fishes for living. Depart from the beach at the night and dock the boat on early morning. Sometimes they have to sail for days only to earn for living. However, they sometimes can’t sail. So, what they do when they don’t sail?

Fixing their boat or broken equipment is a must for fishermen when they don’t sail. But if they don’t sail they get no income. To rely on the tourism aspect is not helping their life much. So, the locals of Drini beach collect sea weeds, small beautiful fish and sea urchin at the shore. They sell them to brokers who buy them in low prices. Doing that won’t make them millionaire, but they can live, simple living, not a luxurious living. Their hard life and intense struggle can fulfill everyday need and even send their children to school. For the matter of good food for children, they usually give some fishes they caught in order for the children to get good nutrient.

Some of the fishermen don’t have their own boat. They rent the boat from the “Juragan”, the owner of the rental. Sharing the catch is how they pay the rent fee. At least, the fishermen get only 30% – 40% of the result. Since the government helps them with boats, they don’t depend on the Juragan.

What I feel when I visited Sundak beach was something that is called tranquility. It was about 3.30 PM when the sun prepared to ‘come home’. The golden light of the sun warmed me while I was blown by the wind of the sea. The subsided water allowed me to go further, walked on the green sea weeds, found the best angle to capture the moment. All I heard was only the sound of the wind and the wave. I looked at the water, there were many small fishes swam and hide in the coral, maybe they’re afraid of me.

Sundak beach is not to far from the other beaches like Baron, Drini and Krakal. They make a chain of beaches in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The view along the road to the beaches is good, the hill with green grass in the rainy season just give a better mood for everyone.

Unlike Baron and Drini beach, Sundak beach is quiet. Its contour is not ideal for fishermen to dock their boats so that there is no fisherman there. In addition, food stalls are outside the beach area. Since it is not as popular as Baron beach, only few visitors visit this beach. However, its beauty can’t be defeated by the more popular beach.

Sundak beach has white sand and rocky hills on the right and the left as a border of the view. On the east hill, there is a building for observing the surrounding or for meditation if you like. From top of the hill, we can see the beautiful view of the beach, small rocky island and the sunset if you’re lucky.

The southern coast of Java Island hides gold to be explored. The beauty of the nature and the interesting people and culture should not be neglected. All of it awaits to be touched, a touch that will make it alive.

Yogyakarta has beaches on a line from the east to the west coast. It has untouched beaches such as Baron, Kukup, Krakal, Sepanjang, Drini, Sundak, Siung, Ngobaran and many more. With their own typical, the beaches offer different interest from each other.

Enjoy fresh seafood at Baron Beach

Baron beach is about 50 kilometers to the south of Yogyakarta. It is on Gunung Kidul, a Regency known with its traditional food called Thiwul. In the beach, we can enjoy the beautiful view and enjoy fresh sea food that is cooked by order. The fishes available there are crabs, lobster, tuna, cuttlefish, sharks and many more. The price is relatively cheap, for crab is IDR40.000 per kilogram. If we want the fish cooked there is additional charge IDR10.000.

If you love to cook, you may ask to cook yourself. But don’t be shocked if there are no modern stove or oven. The cooks are cooking using traditional charcoal stove. People believe if the charcoal will give the fish more tasty.

How to get there

Simply get a bus from Yogyakarta to Wonosari. At Wonosari bus station take a bus to Baron beach. After 3.00 PM there will be no buses, so you should plan the tour well.
