Indigenous Culture Shows in Danau Sentani Festival

Jayapura - Papua will have a big event in this year calendar which is Danau Sentani Festival (Lake Sentani Festival). This event will perform various indigenous cultures of Sentani and from other region in Indonesia. The event is starting from June 1st until June 5th, 2010.
The celebration is an important calendar of event in Papua. Beside Festival Bahari Raja Ampat, Festival Danau Sentani is worth to be visited. In the previous event, there are many tourist from Australia, Japan, Europe visited to give appreciation on the local culture living history.

One of the event shows is dancing on the canoe. This is the indigenous culture of people around Lake Sentani. The dancer should be carefully dancing to keep the balance so that they won’t fall into the water. In the daily life, the local people do dancing on boat when they bring woods to build the meeting house.
Observing the native culture is very interesting, especially the local’s women activity to catch fishes while smoking. The different is that they put the ember in the mouth. The reason of smoking is to defeat the cold of the lake’s water.
Except those above indigenous culture show there will be Wayang Kulit (Shadow Puppet Show) from Central Java.
